Des Moines, IA – On Friday, State Representative and candidate for Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District Jennifer Konfrst (D-Windsor Heights) joined other Iowa leaders to stand up for affordable healthcare for Iowans and defend reproductive freedom from extremist special interest groups.

“The special interests are flocking to Iowa to bail out Congressman Nunn because his votes to raise the cost of our healthcare and promise to ban abortion with no exceptions are deeply unpopular with Iowans,” said Konfrst. “I’ll never stop fighting for our working class values and that starts with lowering healthcare costs and defending reproductive freedom.”

On Thursday, a national pro-life special interest group announced they were coming to Iowa to protect Congressman Zach Nunn because he has been "instrumental" in their efforts to close Planned Parenthood healthcare facilities in Iowa.

Rep. Konfrst was joined at the press conference by State Rep. Heather Matson and Jill June, the former head of Planned Parenthood in Iowa.

NUNN’S RECORD: Raising Costs & Taking Away Healthcare
- He voted to cut Medicaid, stripping healthcare from more than 100,000 Iowans
- He voted to cut the ACA, which will increase healthcare premiums by over $1,400 for an average 60-year old couple in the 3rd District starting in January

NUNN’S RECORD: Taking Away Reproductive Freedom
- Zach Nunn committed to work to ban abortion nationwide with no exceptions
- In 2018, Nunn voted for a near total ban on abortion in the Iowa House and in 2021, supported a constitution amendment to eliminate the right to an abortion in Iowa
- Polls show that as many as 64% of Iowans support safe and legal abortion and oppose Iowa’s dangerous near total abortion ban

Women’s Healthcare at Risk in Iowa
- Iowa is already a maternal healthcare desert
  - 57% of counties in the state have no OBGYN facilities
  - 14% of Iowa women don’t have access to a hospital where they can birth within 30 minutes of them
  - In the past 20 years, 40+ birthing units have closed across Iowa
- Four of Iowa’s PP clinics have closed in 2025, including one in IA-03 in Urbandale
