Jennifer Konfrst joins UnityPoint Nurses
+ Teamsters Local 90 to Rally for Unionization
Des Moines, IA - Former State House Democratic Leader and IA-03 Congressional candidate State Rep. Jennifer Konfrst joined UnityPoint nurses and Teamsters Local 90 members today as they rallied to have their call heard for a fair contract. As a union member and the daughter of a nurse, Konfrst was proud to stand in solidarity with the working people on the front lines who care for Iowans and their families.
“Growing up, I saw the sacrifices my mom made to care for her patients while trying to raise me on a single income. If she had a union fighting for her, it would have made our lives just a little bit easier, and sometimes that little bit makes all the difference,” said Jennifer Konfrst. “The men and women caring for Iowans deserve to have a union fighting for them and their families. As a union member, I was proud to take that fight to the Iowa State House, and I will continue that fight with you for the working families of Iowa in Congress.”
Konfrst was raised for half her childhood by her single mother, Penni, an Air Force veteran who worked night shifts as a nurse and struggled to provide for them on her salary while working hard to provide critical care to patients. She knows firsthand that when nurses suffer, so do their patients. Konfrst calls on UnityPoint leadership to stop union-busting practices, recognize the nurses' contract with Teamsters 90 to ensure that their concerns about compensation, working conditions, and patient care are addressed.
